Waste & Recycling in Argyle: How to Dispose Responsibly

The Village and Town of Argyle do not offer curbside garbage or recycling pickup. Instead, residents are responsible for bringing their waste to the Argyle Recycling Center.

Wednesdays – 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM & 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Saturdays – 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Garbage Disposal Requirements

All trash must be placed in yellow Argyle garbage bags ($2 per bag).

Bags can be purchased at:

  • Recycling Center
  • Argyle Public Library
  • Clerk’s Office (Argyle Community Building)
  • Local Banks
  • Please tie all bags shut to prevent litter and pests.

Recycling Guidelines

The Recycling Center accepts the following materials, which must be sorted into designated drop-off categories:

  • #1 Plastic bottles such as soda and water bottles must be rinsed and lids removed
    • Caps/lids can be put in single stream
  • #2 Plastic containers must be rinsed and separated into two groups as follows:
    • All milk jugs with lids removed
      • Caps/lids can be put in single stream
    • All other #2 containers with lids removed
      • lids can be put in the single stream
  • Aluminum Cans
    • Must be rinsed

  • Corrugated Cardboard
    • Cardboard must be cut into sheets and all staples and tape removed
    • Flat board and waxed or plastic-coated cardboard can be put in with the single stream
  • Single Stream (all containers must be rinsed and free of contaminants prior to recycling)
    • Household plastic containers numbered #3 through #7 (please see instructions above for #1 & #2)
    • Tin Cans
    • Glass Jars & Bottles
    • Plastic Caps
    • Paper / Books / Magazines
    • Grocery bags

Additionally, the recycling center accepts the following materials which can be dropped off for no charge:

  • Metals, including aluminum, steel, copper, tin
    • Scrap metal container available for larger pieces of metal.

The following items have a per piece charge:

  • Appliances
    • Stoves, Washers, Dryers, Microwaves, etc. – $10
    • Fridges, Freezers, Air Conditioners, and others containing freon – $25
  • Electronic Waste – 50¢ per lb.
    • To be weighed by attendant
  • Light Bulbs & Tubes
    • Florescent Tubes
      • 4 ft. – .50¢ per tube
      • 8 ft. – $1 per tube
    • Other Light bulbs – price determined by attendant
  • Batteries – price to be determined by attendant depending on bulb tube.
  • All bulky oversized pickup loads – $30 minimum, priced determined by attendant.

No construction material or remodeling materials are allowed at this site.

Items banned from Landfills:

  • Appliances, tires, used motor oil, lead acid batteries, wet paint, electronics (TV, computers, fax machines, DVD players, VCRs, DVRs) and yard waste.
